Congratulations to the ANC and Jacob Zuma!

GLOBAL ZIMBABWE FORUM

Press Statement

19th December 2007

The Global Zimbabwe Forum would like to extend its message of congratulations to the African National Congress on the successful conduct of its new leadership elections.

The success of the ANC's internal democratic process should serve as a beacon of hope to the whole of Africa where ruling parties are well known for not promoting any form of open democratic expression within their rank and file.

We salute the ANC for setting such a high standard for the rest of the African continent.
We would also like to congratulate Comrade Jacob Zuma on his electoral success. We trust that he will be able to add more impetus to the on-going efforts by President Thabo Mbeki to help resolve the crisis in Zimbabwe .

We call for Zuma to be even more clear and unequivocal in his stance against any form of dictatorship and human rights abuse in Zimbabwe .

We also call upon the newly elected leadership of the ANC to revisit the plight of the millions of Zimbabweans that are currently living in South Africa .

In particular we hope that the outstanding issue of the legal status of Zimbabweans will also be decisively resolved soon.
